The word 'Lungta' is Tibetan for Wind Horse, the mythic symbolism for the Human Soul.
For the soul to be free and unattached to earthly suffering, one needs to give unconditional love and care to all living things.
Lungta Sanctuary is founded on this very principle. We aim to take in and care for unwanted and abandoned animals, we have started off as a horse sanctuary, but as time goes on we hope it will be so much more. Lungta Sanctuary will become a place where all sentient beings can feel safe and be given the quality of care they deserve.
Somehow in this modern age of convenience, impulse and profits, we have sadly forgotten the beautiful kinship we have with animals. Not only horses but all animals today are being neglected in appalling numbers and treated like commodities.
Lungta Sanctuary will not only care for and re-home these animals, it will be an open education centre for children from schools and families to visit. By connecting and interacting with beautiful animals (who without judgement and prejudice, have no other agenda but to be our companions) young visitors will have their souls and minds filled with love.

Our Mission
The mission of Lungta Sanctuary is to be a caring sanctuary for animals - in particular abandoned and unwanted horses.
Lungta Sanctuary will:
1. Work with breeders, sale yards, trainers and animal rescue groups all around the country to take in unwanted and abandoned horses that might otherwise be heading for slaughter.
2. Aim to re-train and re-home horses to private homes under a strict lease contract only. Under no circumstances will Lungta horses be on-sold.
3. Be an open and free facility encouraging visitation from school organisations and families in order to visit, interact and learn from the animals. Our aim is to teach empathy and compassion first hand.
4. Maintain a strictly no-kill policy for animals that come through our doors - unless we have undisputed advice on medical grounds that the animals are suffering through terminal pre-existing conditions.
5. Aim to educate and spread the message to treat animals with dignity and care, and to stand up and be proactive against cruelty to animals in industry.
6. Recruit dedicated volunteers and individuals to help with our operations and fight for change to personal, economic and legal attitudes towards the treatment of all animals.
7. Be a strictly non-denominational, non-prejudicial and non-judgmental organisation - our only over-riding belief is that as humans we must treat all other living creatures with dignity, care and love.
Our mission is to provide a safe and caring sanctuary for companion animals - in particular abandoned and unwanted horses.
